#271 Arizona Cardinals +7 over Los Angeles Rams 3:25 PM CT
The Week 1 win for the Rams 30-13 over Seattle looks more and more like an outlier. The Rams deserve credit for one-score losses to San Francisco and Cincinnati but were also fortunate in the team’s only other win, an overtime result at Indianapolis. Last week the Rams couldn’t keep pace with the Eagles even with the return of Cooper Kupp, losing 23-14 and that score didn’t indicate the gap between the past two NFC champions as the Eagles had a 454-249 edge in yards, 11 more first downs, and 1.3 more yards per play. Philadelphia’s defense has mostly underwhelmed this season, so putting up only 14 points at home last week as a poor showing for Los Angeles. Over the past three games the Rams have averaged just over 17 points per game in regulation as this will be a risky team to lay a touchdown with. The Cardinals are just 1-4 this season but three of five teams faced were considered preseason contenders. Last week’s loss to Cincinnati was a four-point game well into the 4th quarter even with the Cardinals allowing a defensive touchdown as that was a more competitive game than the final score. Joshua Dobbs is 17th in the NFL in QB Rating while Matthew Stafford is 25th, with Stafford a risk for negative plays with five interceptions in five games while taking 29 sacks behind the struggling offensive line for Los Angeles. Dobbs has only been sacked nine times this season and last week was his first notably bad performance even while having to face San Francisco and Dallas already this season. The Cardinals are headed towards a losing season, but Jonathan Gannon deserves credit for some creative scheming and getting good efforts from his team even in a challenging transition while plugging in a new starting quarterback that joined the team just two weeks before the season. Arizona has won S/U or lost in a one-score game in four of the past five meetings in this series as this is a big number for a division rivalry game for a Rams outfit that is just 2-5 S/U in the past seven home games.
