#917 Boston Red Sox (Crawford) -140 over Kansas City Royals (Keller) 1:10 PM CT
Boston’s season may appear to be falling apart but Kutter Crawford has been a bright spot with a 2.38 ERA since July started, going at least five innings, and allowing three or fewer runs in all six appearances. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is above 6.4 in that span and his CSW% is 29.1 percent in the past month, approaching an elite level among AL starters even while facing AL playoff contenders in all six of those starts. That changes today facing a Royals group near the bottom of the AL with Kansas City featuring a .676 season OPS vs. right-handers and a .667 OPS over the past two weeks. The Royals have scored just 2.9 runs per nine vs. right-handers in the past 10 games and Kansas City has been outscored by 68 runs at home this season. Brad Keller has 12 losses this season and a 4.61 ERA and his K/9 is only 6.0 this season. He has slightly better numbers at home but has still allowed three or more runs in four of his last six starts. Kansas City has featured arguably the worst bullpen in the AL this season with a 4.45 ERA on the season and the Royals got a walk-off win yesterday with five runs on only eight hits, incredibly getting three home runs despite being 26th in MLB in home run rate. Boston is only four games out of an AL wild card spot and is 108 runs better than Kansas City in scoring differential and the starting pitching pairing should provide a big edge for Boston Sunday.
