#922 Kansas City Royals (Lugo) +110 over Minnesota Twins (Ryan) 3:10 PM CT
The Twins are heavy favorites in the AL Central and off to a 1-0 start with a 4-1 result on Thursday in Kansas City. That was a 2-1 game into the ninth inning with Royce Lewis leading the way with a 1st inning home run while going 2-for-2. Lewis left the game with an injury and is now on the IL, while Max Kepler also left the opener and is likely to sit out today. Trevor Larnach is also on the IL as the lineup for the Twins is severely depleted while the bullpen is missing four top options, notably Caleb Thielbar and Jhoan Duran as the roster that projects Minnesota to be the class of the AL Central won’t be on the field today. The Twins were only 16-13 in Joe Ryan starts last season and he didn’t clear six innings in any of his 14 starts after pitching a complete game shutout in June, while landing on the IL for most of August as well, as the Minnesota bullpen is likely in line for at least four innings Saturday. Ryan had a 1.8 HR/9 last season as well. Seth Lugo had a solid season for the Padres last season and most of Minnesota’s lineup has minimal experience against him. He had just a 1.2 HR/9 last season and he was excellent pitching home and away last season. Ryan in contrast had a 5.22 ERA in his 79 road innings last season for a huge disparity compared with his results at Target Field. This is an incomplete Twins team right now and the Royals should be a threat to even their season record on Saturday while catching a favorable home underdog price.
