#454 New Orleans Saints +4.5 over Detroit Lions 12:00 PM CT
New Orleans is the only team among the four losing NFC South squads that has a positive scoring differential, and this is a critical game for New Orleans after back-to-back losses on the road the past two games. After the bye week the Saints lost vs. rival Atlanta on the road last week but New Orleans managed only 15 points on 444 yards as the production was there. Allowing a 92-yard interception return touchdown early in the game was the difference while New Orleans settled for six field goal attempts in the game, coming away with no touchdowns despite five red zone trips. Chris Olave appears on track to play as the biggest name on a substantial injury report of questionable players for New Orleans this week, going up against a Lions squad also off a loss. Detroit suffered another Thanksgiving defeat and while the NFC North control remains strong, the long term potential of this group can come into question having allowed 93 points the past three games despite facing losing teams in all three games with the past two games at home. Detroit has three road wins this season but two of those wins came by slim margins of three or fewer points. This is only the second road game in the past five games for the Lions and it comes in-between division games. New Orleans has lost two home games this season, but one was a one-score loss to the Jaguars with a substantial production edge in a game that was tied in the final minutes. The other was the early season game with the Buccaneers when Derek Carr played while clearly at worse than 100 percent health. The Saints are a top 10 scoring defense this season and are third in the NFL in opposing QB Rating. Detroit is 21st in yards per play allowed and has allowed the ninth most passing yards in the NFL over the past three games. Jared Goff hasn’t taken the criticism that Carr has but he has posted a QBR of 54 or worse in four of the past five games despite his season average being near 59 as he has not been playing as well lately as he did in the first month of the season.
