Niagara is just 4-8 in MAAC play but the Purple Eagles are a healthy favorite tonight hosting Canisius. When these teams played in late January Niagara escaped Buffalo with a one-point win, but Canisius had a terrific shooting game including hitting 50 percent on 3-point shots. Niagara has lost four conference home games, but it has been one of the tougher Metro paths so far this season and on Saturday the Purple Eagles scored a nice win over Quinnipiac on the road. The close loss in the first meeting between these teams seems to be the outlier for the Golden Griffins as the team’s other nine losses in conference play have all come by eight or more points. Canisius is a good 3-point shooting team but so is Niagara and the contrast in 2-point success rates is dramatic in favor of the Purple Eagles on both sides of the ball. Canisius has the worst effective field goal rate defense in the conference and the Golden Griffins are just 8-15 ATS this season in addition to the awful S/U results, going 1-11 S/U in road games this season. The close game two weeks ago will ensure that this game has Niagara’s full attention, even coming off a win against one of the top MAAC contenders.
