Longtime Florida State head coach Leonard Hamilton has announced that this will be his last season with the program and that should provide a boost for a team that has lost four in a row after showing some promise early in the season. Three of those four losses have been on the road and Florida State is 3-2 S/U at home in ACC play including a win over Pittsburgh. Notre Dame just lost to Miami on the road last weekend and the Irish are just 1-5 S/U in conference road games. Both Florida State and Notre Dame have drawn favorable schedules so far this season in ACC play and the defensive numbers have been preferable for the Seminoles in a conference where home court has been meaningful. Florida State has much stronger turnover rates on both sides of the ball in comparing these teams and the Irish are much more reliant on 3-point shooting. Notre Dame has shot exceptionally well from 3-point range this season but ranks 15th in the ACC in 2-point shooting and free throw shooting. Florida State has a top three interior defense in the ACC and there should be a clear size advantage in this matchup for the home team which should negatively impact Notre Dame’s potential to reach its season shooting averages. Florida State is 7-1 S/U in the past eight meetings in this series including four straight home wins vs. Notre Dame.
