Free Pick Thursday: NCAA #311 UTEP +4 over Rice 6:00 PM CT

Rice had a halftime lead at UTEP late last season but allowed 24 consecutive points to lose. UTEP has climbed to 4-5 but has allowed 28 points per game the past four weeks and rates as one of the worst scoring defenses in Conference USA. Rice is 2-2 in league play, but the two wins came by a combined total of five points. These teams have similar net yards per play numbers and the underdog Miners have a significantly stronger run defense to have some life in this prime time game that could be a bowl elimination game with both teams at four wins currently. This is certainly an overlooked game on a crowded sports Thursday night but the market has offered some slight support for the underdog with a few books dipping to +3.5 on the Miners from +4. UTEP has been outgained in four of the past seven games but never by a significant margin while Rice has been outgained in four of the past five games including by 87 or more yards three times.
