#732 Wake Forest +6 over North Carolina 1:30 PM CT

Wake Forest played its best game of the season on Saturday posting a blowout in the home finale to shake off a few surprising late season losses, falling in games vs. Florida State, NC State, and Virginia, to offset wins over North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and SMU. The win over North Carolina in late January came by just a point with a major edge in free throws but the Demon Deacons won while making only two 3-point shots while shooting 13% beyond the arc. North Carolina is in a slightly better NCAA Tournament bubble position at this point as this should be treated like an elimination game, though the victor will likely need to win on Friday as well, likely against Duke, to feel secure in a position in the field. The Tar Heels are 7-1 in the past eight games only losing to Duke in a 13-point loss at home last weekend. Yesterday North Carolina won by 21 against Notre Dame in this favorable Charlotte venue, with two starters for the Irish out and Notre Dame posting disastrous shooting results all over the floor. North Carolina won despite losing the turnover and offensive rebounding battles and struggling at the free throw line, thanks to making 13 3-point shots at an over 46 percent clip. Wake Forest is one of the better defenses in the conference and leads the ACC in 3-point defense as this should again be a problematic matchup for the Tar Heels. Wake Forest should control the turnovers in this game with the Demon Deacons 2nd in the ACC in creating takeaways in contrast to North Carolina ranking 14th. Wake Forest has a significant size edge in this matchup and while the Tar Heels can put up a strong pace after averaging nearly 82 points per game this season, a close game is likely with the Tar Heels producing just one win by more than 10 points in the past eight meetings between these teams. Wake Forest was favored hosting North Carolina and now in a neutral setting the Tar Heels are a two-possession favorite with the popular program catching a bit too much support sitting as the highest profile team right on the NCAA Tournament cut line.
