Free Pick Thursday #778 Stony Brook +5.5 over Drexel 6:00 PM CT
Drexel is off to a 3-1 start in CAA play but Elon and Monmouth account for two of those wins, a pair of squads that are a combined 3-31 on the season. All three CAA wins have come at home for Drexel, who lost by six at Towson in the only conference road test. On the season Drexel has played five road games and is 1-4 S/U with only an overtime win so while Stony Brook is not an overly strong foe, winning on the road can’t be assumed for the Dragons. Drexel plays at a very deliberate pace and takes good care of the ball, but this is a poor shooting team all over the floor, outside the nation’s top 250 in 3-point percentage, 2-point percentage, and free throw percentage. Stony Brook will be comfortable at the slow pace of play and the 6-10 record for the Seawolves did come through a decent non-conference path. Stony Brook is 2-1 in league play even with two of three games on the road. It will be a big leap from the America East to the Colonial for Geno Ford’s squad that won 18 games last season but there has been an apparent home court edge with a 4-2 record at home with only competitive losses to Yale and Towson squads that grade well above Drexel right now.
