#329 Baylor +15 over Utah 2:30 PM CT

Utah is now a Big XII team, but this game won’t count as an official Big XII game as these teams complete a previously scheduled home-and-home with Utah winning narrowly in Waco last season. Baylor led 13-6 last season until Utah scored twice in the final two minutes of the game as Baylor had an interception deep in its own territory after allowing the tying score. The Utes had a shutout vs. FCS competition at home last week as five of Cam Rising’s 10 completions went for touchdowns. Baylor won the Big XII title in Dave Aranda’s second season at Baylor in 2021 but is just 9-16 the past two seasons. Toledo transfer Dequan Finn had mixed results in his first start with the Bears as Baylor comfortably defeated Tarleton State, a ranked FCS team that went 8-3 last season. Ironically Utah’s opponent last week, Southern Utah, did play Tarleton State last season and won 27-26, but it was a fluke finish as Tarleton State led 26-14 with three minutes to go and a fumble return delivered the miracle comeback. Southern Utah’s veteran quarterback that threw for nearly 10,000 yards in his career graduated after last season as Tarleton State projects as the stronger team in 2024. Baylor is 18-11 ATS as an underdog of 14 or more since 2008, though just 2-2 under Aranda. The Bears have 19 starters back and some of the best returning production measures in the nation as this is very likely to be a vastly improved team after a tough 3-9 season in 2023, that included three one-score losses, including the narrow miss vs. Utah. Kyle Whittingham owns a strong track record also entering his 20th season, but the Utes are just 5-5 ATS at home as a favorite of 14 or more since 2021 and most of the ATS success for Whittingham comes in the road underdog role.
