#381 Old Dominion -4.5 over Arkansas State 2:00 PM CT

Old Dominion won just 29-26 as a slight favorite when these teams met in 2022 in Norfolk. The Monarchs are +19 in Sun Belt scoring despite being 3-4 while Arkansas State is -33 in scoring in SBC play despite being 5-2 as these teams arguably deserve to switch records. Losing at home to Marshall last week knocks Old Dominion out of the bowl season with three straight defeats, all one-score results vs. three of the better teams in the conference. Old Dominion had very competitive losses to South Carolina and Virginia Tech in the non-conference season and the offense has shown plenty of potential behind Colton Joseph who took over early in the season at quarterback. Both teams have great recent rushing numbers, but the Monarchs have posted 5.3 yards per rush in the past three games through a difficult schedule and on the season is a half-yard per carry stronger than Arkansas State. The Arkansas State defense has featured one of the worst run defenses in the nation and the Red Wolves have allowed 6.4 yards per carry in the past three games. Arkansas State has climbed to seven wins and a bowl bid with back-to-back one-score wins over two of the worst teams in the conference. In the two most difficult games faced this season in Sun Belt play Arkansas State lost 41-9 to Texas State and 55-19 to Louisiana. Those were road games and Arkansas State is 5-0 S/U at home to command this small underdog price, but the Red Wolves are only 2-3 ATS this season at home and the strength of schedule has been far weaker than Old Dominion. There is a bit of worry that without a bowl game to play for Old Dominion could mail in a road finale, while Ricky Rahne’s job security isn’t certain, but the Monarchs have the potential to find much better success rates this week in a far more favorable matchup than they have faced most of the season.
