#741 Ball State +2.5 over Texas State 4:00 PM CT
This is an awkward non-conference game tucked into February as Ball State will travel to Texas State. The Cardinals have won four of the past seven to move above .500 for the season and two of the past three losses have been overtime results as the Cardinals in their current form are playing above the season numbers. Ball State has four road wins this season and is one of the better 3-point shooting teams in the nation at over 37 percent. Ball State is also a 77 percent free throw shooting team for appealing traits for a team looking for a road upset. Texas State has won three in a row including a major win over SBC leader Appalachian State Wednesday night. This will be a fourth straight home game for the Bobcats but the recent momentum doesn’t hide problematic offensive numbers. This is the highest turnover offense in the SBC and the second worst shooting team in the conference. Texas State has gone just 3-4 S/U in the past seven home dates and while the defense has been capable, the strong rebounding numbers will be hurt by a major size disadvantage in this pairing as Ball State has three starters at 6’7” or higher. The Sun Belt is a stronger conference than the MAC but Ball State has the shooting numbers to provide a serious threat in this opportunity, while posting a strong 13-8 ATS record this season. Texas State is in a dangerous spot following a big win and this will be a more difficult game to get up for than the typical conference rivals.
