#871 Minnesota +10.5 over Indiana 5:30 PM CT
Minnesota’s 90-72 loss to Michigan State to open the Big Ten season was an outlier and the Gophers have installed a very deliberate pace of play this season that has kept most opponents to lower-scoring figures this season, as the Spartans were the first team to reach 70 points against the Gophers this season. Michigan State had 21 points at the free throw line and shot 50 percent from 3-point range with 11 made 3-point shots for an extreme performance. The Gophers are 1-3 vs. top 100 teams this season, but one loss came in overtime, and another came by three points. The Gophers have struggled at the free throw line, but this is a solid defensive team that takes good care of the ball. Indiana is 7-2 this season but they are 0-2 vs. top 60 teams, losing those two games by a combined 44 points. Turnovers have been an issue for this offense and the Gophers have the size and experience to match up capably vs. a Hoosiers team that often enjoys a tremendous front court size advantage. Indiana won both meetings by 12 points last season vs. Minnesota but the spreads were half of what Monday’s price will be as Indiana looks for a ninth consecutive win in this series. Minnesota has a lousy ATS record this season, but the adjustment has been made given that Minnesota was just +5 on Wednesday vs. the Spartans in what was at the time the largest underdog spread of the season for the Gophers. Indiana was only a slightly large favorite last week vs. Sam Houston and this could be a game where Indiana’s offense stalls and a competitive finish is possible.
