Free Pick Friday: #132 Iowa -10.5 over Nebraska 3:00 PM CT
Nebraska had a 14-3 lead hosting Wisconsin last week in the home finale but it was a misleading result as in the eventual 15-14 defeat Nebraska posted 171 total yards, nearly half of what they allowed. Nebraska’s offense, even with Casey Thompson back last week has now had four straight games without topping 270 yards and has managed a combined total of 39 points. They will now be on the road vs. rival Iowa sitting at 3-8 and with plenty of uncertainty for the future with interim head coach Mickey Joseph and his staff sitting in limbo. Iowa meanwhile has improbably climbed into a win-and-get-in situation for the Big Ten Championship game. The Hawkeyes have seen greatly improved offensive results down the stretch on a four-game winning streak while the defense has allowed a total of 36 points in the past four games combined. The Iowa defense is allowing just 3.0 yards per rush this season and the consistent turnover and special teams results make it likely that at least one big play will go in Iowa’s favor in this game. Iowa is 2-0 S/U and ATS in FBS games as a double-digit favorite this season beating Nevada 27-0 and Northwestern 33-13. Iowa has won seven in a row in this rivalry and while there have been a few close final scores, Iowa has mostly been in control and Nebraska has had backdoor covers in two of those games. Iowa was -12 in this series two years ago as this line isn’t that out of place even if it is uncomfortable to lay points with this Iowa offense.
