#323 Houston +1.5 over Arizona 9:15 PM CT

Following a rough start to the season, Houston is up to 3-3 in Big XII play with wins in three of the past four. It was only a matter of time before Willie Fritz turned things in a positive direction despite the dire start to the season as Fritz is 212-121 in his career with very strong numbers at the FBS level at Georgia Southern and Tulane before making the leap to Houston. An off week after the upset over Kansas State could be helpful but the Cougars have only one road win this season, at TCU. The Cougars nearly beat Oklahoma on the road early in the season however and Arizona has lost five straight games with the last win coming in September. The ground game edge should be significant for Houston with Arizona posting just 2.3 yards per rush the past three games while the Wildcats have allowed 5.4 yards per rush. These are two of the worst three scoring teams in the Big XII but Arizona’s defense has been significantly worse in comparing these teams. Houston may have more to play for in the final month as the Cougars are at home next week and will get a high profile opportunity in the finale at BYU, while BYU may be looking ahead to the Big XII title game. Noah Fifita has had severe regression in the coaching change after being one of the great stories of last season as he has 10 interceptions and has taken 19 sacks. Arizona’s last home game featured the Wildcats trailing 31-13 in the 4th quarter before two late scores made the result more competitive and Houston has been a different team since the move to Zeon Chriss at quarterback with the offense focused more on running the ball rather than risking the turnovers Donovan Smith had in the passing game.
