Free Pick Friday: #832 Missouri +5.5 over Tennessee 2:30 PM CT
Tennessee got the job done yesterday but this team brings a lot of question marks to the table now playing without point guard Zakai Zeigler. The Volunteers dominated the rebounding yesterday against Ole Miss but had 14 turnovers as the ball handling roles have shifted. Missouri’s pace will test Tennessee’s new rotation and Missouri won the only regular season meeting between these teams in Knoxville. The SEC tournament being in Nashville this season provides an edge for Tennessee and this line is nearly cut in half from the mid-February home game for the Volunteers. Missouri was a surprise 11-7 team this season in the SEC and is 8-4 ATS away from home this season. Tennessee wasn’t entering the postseason in the best form even before Zeigler’s injury, losing six of the final 10 regular season games and yesterday’s win over Ole Miss was the first win away from home for Tennessee since January 21 at LSU. Tennessee faced the second weakest SEC schedule this season and still couldn’t claim a top four seed in this tournament and after winning the SEC tournament last season but fading out of the NCAA Tournament in the opening weekend, the priorities for this year’s team may be different this week. Missouri will be in the field next week but is a team that could improve its stock with a win tonight, hoping to move ahead of the 8/9 line where most projections currently leave the Tigers. Tennessee has been erratic enough down the stretch to suggest a serious upset risk Friday afternoon, even in a favorable venue with local support.
