#582 Minnesota Timberwolves -1 over LA Clippers 2:40 PM CT
Friday’s loss to Sacramento leaves the Wolves at 42-18, sitting just a half-game ahead of Oklahoma City and Denver for the top spot in the Western Conference. The Clippers are only three games back as while Minnesota has turned in an incredible season, the final 22 games could greatly shift the narrative and ultimately the playoff prospects for a franchise that has advanced to conference semifinals once in its history. Minnesota is 22-7 S/U at home this season and owns an average scoring differential that is 2.2 points per game stronger than the Clippers. Los Angeles turned in an excellent January to rise to the upper tier of the Western Conference, but the Clippers have shown some inconsistency in recent weeks. The Clippers lost by 21 hosting Minnesota in mid-February and are on just a 5-5 S/U run in the past 10 games even while counting wins over the Pistons, Grizzlies, and Wizards in that run. This trip to the Midwest starts an important two-week stretch for Los Angeles who also just lost Russell Westbrook, while Ivica Zubac and Paul George have been working through nagging injuries as well. For Minnesota Anthony Edwards and Kyle Anderson are on the injury report but playing off a loss and with a favorable game tomorrow, ahead of a lengthy road trip, this is an important game for Minnesota and the team took the Kings to overtime with Edwards sitting out most of the game on Friday to be present for the birth of his child. The Wolves have just twice this season lost consecutive games and both instances were facing lesser teams following a high-profile game with today’s matchup one that will have the team’s full attention. Minnesota has featured the #1 defensive efficiency in the NBA over the past 10 games while the Clippers are in the league’s bottom six in the past 10 games. This is an opportunity for Minnesota to go 3-0 in this series to claim a potentially important tiebreaker with the fourth meeting coming up in a more difficult road spot on the schedule next week.
