Minnesota has not lived up to expectations this season with a 5-7 start, but this is a pairing that should bring out the best in a talented Timberwolves team. Minnesota lost in six games in the playoffs against Memphis in a very competitive series and while the Wolves enter this game in a 1-5 rut in the past six games, most losses have been competitive results and getting back on the road might be a positive for this team. Memphis is 8-4 but the offensive efficiency for the Grizzlies has been quite poor this season. Despite winning two thirds of its games Memphis is only +1.5 points per game in average scoring differential and the Grizzlies have two overtime wins to boost the record. Only three times in 12 games have the Grizzlies won by more than seven points and Memphis is 1-6 ATS this season as a favorite of three or more points. This will be the largest underdog spread of the season for Minnesota and the composite numbers for the Wolves offers significant promise as a top 10 shooting team and a top five field goal rate defense despite the mediocre results through a favorable schedule so far. Memphis is a worse shooting team on both side of the ball in this pairing and the Grizzlies have also been one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the league as a few extra bounces could keep the Timberwolves a threat in this game.
