#929/930 OVER 8.5 St. Louis Cardinals (Lynn) at Los Angeles Angels (Canning) 8:07 PM CT
The Cardinals and Angels have combined for 15 and 13 runs the past two days as St. Louis has put together a rare winning streak in what has been a disappointing start to the season. The Cardinals have scored 21 runs on the 3-0 run since Sunday but St. Louis has allowed at least four runs in nine of the past 10 games. Lance Lynn has a solid 3.79 ERA this season, but his FIP is about a half-run higher, and he has struggled with a high walk rate so far this season. Lynn has allowed 10 runs in his past two starts and has only one quality start in eight tries this season, with that outing coming against Oakland. Griffin Canning owns a career 4.70 ERA and he has been even worse this season through eight starts with a 5.75 ERA and a 4.95 FIP. Canning is on pace for a career low K/9 at 6.4 and his numbers are rough even with his best start of the season coming last Friday. The bullpen has been a problem spot for the Angels with a 5.21 season ERA with no improvement in recent games, featuring a 5.34 ERA in the past 10 games. St. Louis has only been slightly better with a 4.12 ERA in the past 10 games for relievers with an even higher WHIP and opposing batting average than the Angels. There were 24 hits in last night’s game and 24 at-bats with runners in scoring position as there easily could have been even more scoring. Both teams used significant bullpen innings even with arguably the best starting options on the mound. Expect more scoring chances and shaky pitching in this pairing of teams off to disappointing starts to the season.
