#905 New York Mets (Quintana) -135 over Washington Nationals (Corbin) 6:05 PM CT
Washington has lost seven of the past eight games and the lineup has not topped five runs in any of those games while the Nationals have allowed six or more runs in six of those games. Washington’s bullpen has been among the worst units in baseball this season and there is a big contrast in the recent results in favor of the Mets in the late innings. The Mets just took two of three against Seattle and despite the disappointing losing season, New York is 27-28 since July 1 for competitive results. Jose Quintana has a 3.26 ERA this season even if he has just one win in his eight starts, and he was successful in 2022 splitting time with the Pirates and Cardinals. Patrick Corbin is 24-47 in decisions the past three seasons and while his ERA is down to 4.90, his FIP is 5.11 and he remains a great home run risk, with 27 home runs allowed in 27 starts. Corbin allowed 10 hits and six runs in his last start and Corbin is a risk for a short start to leave a lot of potential innings for the shaky Washington bullpen. New York pitching has allowed five or fewer runs in eight of the past nine games despite drawing formidable AL West teams in the past two series and the off day Monday keeps the top relief options in order for New York on Tuesday. New York has a worse record than Washington vs. left-handers this season but in the past five games Washington is batting only .150 vs. southpaw pitching.
