#903/904 OVER 8 Atlanta Braves (Lopez) at Washington Nationals (Gore) 5:45 PM CT
The spring training World Series favorites are now not in the playoff field as Atlanta is a game behind the Mets for the final NL Wild Card spot. The Braves did not score on Monday in a make-up game with the Reds and now head to Washington for two midweek games to complete the season series with the Nationals. Atlanta is just 4-7 vs. Washington this season but the Braves remain an elite hitting team vs. left-handers with a season OPS of .752, while going 27-16 vs. left-handed starters. MacKenzie Gore has been a solid starter for Washington this season, but he does have a high walk rate. He has pitched well in three starts vs. Atlanta but only one of those games was recent. Gore has allowed three or more runs in 10 of his last 14 starts and his home splits have not been much stronger than his road numbers, while his ERA is still 5.00 since the All-Star break even with a few strong outings of late. Reynaldo Lopez has a FIP more than a run higher than his ERA this season and while he has made four solid starts in a row since missing the first three weeks in August, he has pitched worse since the break and Washington’s offense has been on the upswing, scoring at least three runs in nine of the past 10 games. This depressed total looks attainable Tuesday night in the NL East.
