#970 New York Mets (Peterson) +125 over New York Yankees (Cole) 6:10 PM CT

The Yankees own a terrific 52-28 record this season but are only 3-7 in the past 10 games while scoring four or fewer runs in six of those games. Yankees pitching has a 5.58 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP in the past 10 games with brutal numbers from the bullpen including a 6.04 ERA. Gerrit Cole lasted only four innings in his 2024 debut last week as he was allowed only 62 pitches as another abbreviated outing is all that can be expected tonight. The bullpen for the Yankees has been worked hard in the past week with only two of the past five starting efforts surpassing four innings. The pitching staff for the Mets is in good form right now with excellent results from the bullpen and rotation in the past 10 games. The Mets are 15-6 since May 30 creeping closer to .500 for the season, while +36 in scoring in that timeframe. In contrast the Yankees are -9 in run differential since June 7. In six of the past 10 games the Mets have allowed two or fewer runs and David Peterson has been a part of that pitching success with a 3-0 record in his four starts this season, featuring a 3.97 ERA and allowed two or fewer runs in three of four outings. The Yankees got bad news with Giancarlo Stanton joining Anthony Rizzo on the IL, taking two key batters out of the lineup in the past two weeks. The Mets are 5-4 in the past nine meetings of this series despite often being the underdog and the current form of these teams spells a much closer pairing than the season records and the reputations of the starters on the mound Tuesday night.
