#967/968 UNDER 8 Tampa Bay Rays (Bradley) at Cleveland Guardians (Lively) 12:40 PM CT
Cleveland won 6-1 last night to snap a two-game slide in this series, sitting just 3.0 games ahead of the Royals in the AL Central race. The Guardians have played a game finishing with eight or fewer runs in 12 of the past 14 games since August 31 and last night’s 6-run output came with only eight hits and six at-bats with runners in scoring position. Steven Kwan has missed recent games, and Cleveland is batting .218 with 2.8 runs per nine in the past 10 games vs. right-handers. Tampa Bay hasn’t been much better at the plate batting .233 with 3.1 runs per nine vs. right-handers in the past 10 games and the ‘under’ is 6-0 in this series. The Rays have scored more than four runs just twice in the past 10 games, posting three or fewer runs seven times in the past 10 games. Taj Bradley has a 10.1 K/9 this season and while his recent returns have been marginal, he has also faced the Astros, Dodgers, Padres, and Phillies in his recent starts. He threw seven shutout innings vs. the Guardians in July, and he has endured unfortunate home run luck in recent weeks. Ben Lively has been an unexpected reliable starter for Cleveland this season and while his recent splits haven’t been his best, he has still delivered 21 outings with three or fewer runs allowed in 26 starts. He had a good start at Tampa Bay in July and both bullpens have been in excellent recent form. The Rays have a 3.38 bullpen ERA with a 1.08 WHIP in the past 10 games while Cleveland had a 1.51 ERA with a 0.96 WHIP. The humidity is very low Sunday despite warm temperatures and any wind will be blowing in from right field.
