#979 Arizona Diamondbacks (Gallen) -120 over Los Angeles Angels (Detmers) 3:07 PM CT
Arizona has won the first two games of this series and it seems unlikely that the Angels will break out of a slump against Zac Gallen. Los Angeles has scored 5.3 runs per game in the past 10 games but 25 of those 53 runs came in one game at Colorado, the Angels have been held to four or fewer runs in seven of the past 10 games including scoring only three runs so far in the first two games of this series. Arizona has marginal season splits vs. left-handers but is 14-11 in those matchups including a win yesterday as the Diamondbacks continue to lead the NL West and own an amazing 26-14 record on the road. Gallen is a top Cy Young candidate in the NL and his FIP is even lower than his impressive 3.02 ERA. Gallen has allowed two or fewer earned runs in 11 of his last 15 starts. Reid Detmers deserves better than his 1-5 record, but walks have been an issue and he now goes up against one of the least strikeout-prone teams in MLB. While Detmers has delivered a terrific four-start run, the Los Angeles bullpen is at a significant disadvantage, including a 4.83 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP in the past 10 games. Arizona in contrast owns a 2.37 ERA with an 0.86 WHIP for relievers in the past 10 games. The Angels may be a popular play-on team in this situation looking to avoid a sweep but doubting the legitimacy of Arizona’s 50-34 start has not paid off often this season.
Check out offers for Sunday MLB – Dalton is on a 21-7 run in his last 28, while Nelly’s picked up over 25* in June MLB!
