#968 Cleveland Guardians (Syndergaard) -140 over Chicago White Sox (Kopech) 6:10 PM CT
It is hard to have a lot of confidence in Noah Syndergaard given his marginal season numbers, but he pitched extremely well in his first start with the Guardians and a change of scenery could help to revitalize the career of the former star, who is still only 30 years old. His FIP is more than a run lower than his ERA and he displayed strong command this season. The strikeout potential has been limited but he has suffered worse home run luck than he deserves. The White Sox are 20th in MLB in home runs and Eloy Jimenez is out of the lineup right now to further deplete that potential. Luis Robert is having a nice season, but he actually has just one home run in the past 13 games while batting .212 with a 37 percent strikeout rate. Cleveland is 29-26 since June 1 while +29 in scoring and while the team dealt a few players at the deadline this group continues to provide quality at-bats and good pitching, allowing three or fewer runs in eight of the past 10 games. Chicago is 7-13 in Michael Kopech starts and he has a 6.61 ERA since the All-Star break including taking a loss against Cleveland last week. Chicago is just 7-20 since July 1 as few teams have been worse performers in recent weeks.
