#913 Minnesota Twins (Festa) +120 over Texas Rangers (Eovaldi) 6:05 PM CT
The Twins were out-hit 8-5 yesterday but Minnesota used its bullpen effectively to close out the game using five relievers to get 12 outs with seven via strikeouts. The bullpen edge for the Twins in comparing these teams has been clear all season and is dramatically apparent in the recent splits with Texas holding a 6.26 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP from relievers in the past 10 games. Now 10 games out of the AL West picture, playoff hopes for the defending World Series champions have all but expired with the Rangers losing eight of the past 10 games. Texas pitching has allowed four or more runs in 13 of the past 15 games. Nathan Eovaldi has turned in steady results this season but since the All-Star Break is ERA is 6.58 with seven home runs allowed in 26 innings. David Festa didn’t look sharp in his first two MLB starts but since returning to the team after the All-Star Break, Festa is proving to be a dynamic strikeout producer and the boost to the rotation that many Twins fans hoped would come via trade at the deadline. Festa has a 2.04 ERA with a 12.7 K/9 in his last four appearances including three consecutive starting efforts. Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax have both pitched in back-to-back games and could be off the table tonight as the Twins look for three in a row in this series but the Texas pitching staff has been beset by recent injuries and lacks consistent options behind Eovaldi. Minnesota is 10-5 in August and +27 in scoring, Texas is 4-10 and -20 in scoring in August as the Twins have appeal as an underdog Saturday.
