#901/902 UNDER 8 Washington Nationals (Irvin) at New York Mets (Manaea) 6:10 PM CT
While it hasn’t been a strong season for Washington, Jake Irvin has been a solid starter, set to make his 31st start of the season, no small feat in the modern MLB era, with only four other MLB starters so far having made 31 starts in the 2024 season. His road ERA is 3.94 in more than 102 innings, and he had a good start and a bad start vs. the Mets in July. In five of his last 10 starts he has allowed two or fewer runs and in the past 10 games the Mets have hit just .206 vs. right-handers. There is a risk this will be a letdown game for the Mets coming off a road trip and a big series with the Phillies with a tough loss on Sunday. The Mets and Braves are currently tied for the final NL Wild Card spot, and this will be the last series of the season for New York against a losing team with a difficult closing schedule ahead. The Mets have the starter they need Monday to break a two-game slide as Sean Manaea has turned in an outstanding season to reestablish his career. Over his last 10 starts he has a 2.73 ERA with a 10.6 K/9. Washington has hit decently against left-handers this season, but Manaea had a strong start in Washington in July. The Nationals have been held to five or fewer runs in nine of the past 10 games while Washington pitching has allowed three or fewer runs in five of the past nine games. The Mets have been held to four or fewer runs in six of the past eight games while New York pitching has allowed four or fewer runs in eight of the past 10 games. Citi Field is a strong pitching park, and it will be a cool night with a wind blowing in from right field as lower numbers can be expected Monday night.
