Free Pick #903 St. Louis Cardinals (Montgomery) -120 over San Francisco Giants (Cobb) 8:45 PM CT
The Giants are 3-5 vs. left-handed starters while batting .212 and scoring just 2.9 runs per nine vs. left-handers on the season. Jordan Montgomery owns a 4.84 ERA in four starts this season but with a 2.88 FIP and his numbers since 2021 should place him among the upper tier left-handed starters in baseball. He has very low walk and home run rates and the Cardinals also have a big edge in the bullpen in this pairing with a 3.31 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP compared to a 5.09 ERA for Giants relievers with a 1.41 WHIP. San Francisco is coming off wins Saturday and Sunday, but the Giants have allowed at least four runs in nine of the past 10 games. Alex Cobb has good numbers so far in 2023 but he has benefitted from an 84 percent strand rate compared to his 72 percent career average. Cobb has only pitched past five innings once in four starts this season as well, leaving a lot of outs for the bullpen which needed an extended outing yesterday and has had to deal with San Francisco starters failing to go past five innings in five of the past six days. The Cardinals are 12 runs better in scoring differential despite the similar records for these teams as well.
