#929 San Diego Padres (Mazur) -110 over Los Angeles Angels (Sandoval) 8:38 PM CT
The Padres have lost back-to-back one-run games to sit just one game above .500 on the season. San Diego is 19-12 on the road while the Angels are 8-21 at home despite Los Angeles escaping with a 2-1 win last night. San Diego had two more hits and twice as many at-bats with runners in scoring position. San Diego pitching has allowed four or fewer runs in seven of the past nine games and while this will be the MLB debut for Adam Mazur, the Round 2 pick from 2022 has delivered good minor league strikeout and walk numbers and his elevated home run rate in AAA can be somewhat pinned on pitching in elevation in El Paso. The Angels have gone 11 straight games without topping four runs and in the past 10 games Los Angeles is batting .170 with 1.9 runs per nine as this is a very favorable draw for Mazur’s first start. The Angels are just 3-9 in Patrick Sandoval starts with his ERA climbing to 5.34. Walks have been an issue throughout Sandoval’s career as extra base runners seem possible for San Diego tonight. Sandoval has not pitched well in Anaheim this season with a 6.32 home ERA and the Angels have struggled in the bullpen with a 4.80 season ERA that is up to 7.62 in the past five games.
