These teams combined for only four runs and 10 hits last night. It was a fourth consecutive ‘under’ on the current home stand for Arizona with the Diamondbacks on a nice late season run at 23-19 since August 1. Most have written off Madison Bumgarner’s career and the former San Francisco great is having a very tough season. He has dramatically better numbers in Phoenix however and he has pitched well at home vs. the Padres with two runs and five hits allowed in eight innings this season. San Diego’s season is on the ropes with another spending frenzy still leaving the team perilously close to the edge of the playoff picture. The Padres are batting .205 in the past 10 games with just 3.0 runs per nine and a .617 team OPS over the past two weeks. On the season both teams have a team OPS below .700 vs. left-handers and Blake Snell can carry the Padres tonight. Snell has a 12.1 K/9 and has a 2.89 ERA since the All-Star break for great improvement down the stretch. The ‘under’ is 13-7 in Snell start this season and he allowed four hits and one run over six innings vs. Arizona in early September. In 16 games this season these teams have averaged just 7.5 run per game and another lower scoring contest looks likely Friday night.
