#927 Miami Marlins (Perez) +115 over Chicago White Sox (Cease) 7:10 PM CT
Eury Perez has made the leap from AA to the MLB level, but so far he has been able to pitch well in five starts and 24 innings. His FIP is much higher than his 2.25 ERA, but he has a 9.0 K/9 and enters this start coming off back-to-back scoreless five-inning outings. The only start this season in which he allowed more than two runs came at Coors Field and he only allowed four hits in that start. Miami has defied its season scoring numbers to reach 35-28 and while the current six-game winning streak came against the two worst teams in baseball, the lineup has provided consistent results batting .273 with 5.7 runs per nine in the past 10 games. Chicago has won five of the past six games, but the White Sox have had some close-game fortune in that span as three of the team’s past four wins were one-run results. Chicago is hitting just .210 vs. right-handers in the past 10 games. Dylan Cease still commands attention as tonight’s starter for the White Sox but his 2023 season results have not resembled his Cy Young finalist results from last season. Cease has seen his K/9 drop considerably while his walk and home runs rates have soared. Last season he had good fortune with a low BABIP and an 82 percent strand rate, adjustments have occurred in his 13 starts this season and his ERA has more than doubled. Cease has had good numbers in his past five starts but four of those games came vs. Detroit and Cleveland and Miami’s low-strikeout, high-on-base lineup will be a threat to have success against Cease and a White Sox bullpen with a 4.70 ERA this season.
