#957 Arizona Diamondbacks (Pfaadt) +110 over San Diego Padres (King) 8:40 PM CT

San Diego has dropped five in a row without topping three runs. The rotation is getting the job done but the offense continues to slump, averaging 2.2 runs per nine in that span while Arizona in contrast has averaged 5.0 runs per nine. Michael King has a nice 9.6 K/9 this season but his walk rate is elevated, and he has been a home run risk with a groundball rate below 40 percent and a 1.6 HR/9 in 73 innings. As such his FIP is nearly a run higher than his solid 3.82 ERA. King surprisingly has much worse numbers at home with a 5.06 ERA while he made an excellent start vs. the Diamondbacks in May, that was in Phoenix. Brandon Pfaadt made a name for himself in the playoffs last season, and he has pitched better than his average season line suggests in 2024. His FIP is just 3.10, well below his 4.32 ERA and he has very low walk and home run rates. Pfaadt has endured some very tough luck with 41 percent of his base runners scoring as he is a candidate to see his numbers improve. Pfaadt has made six of his last eight starts on the road but this should be a favorable pitching environment as his only career start at Petco Park featured seven scoreless innings. Arizona has posted the superior recent bullpen splits with the Padres struggling in the late innings, including a 5.59 ERA with a 1.62 WHIP in the past 10 games from relievers, including taking a loss last night while Arizona posted four clean outings from its bullpen to hold on.
