Kyle Gibson has relatively average numbers for the Phillies this season with a 4.35 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. His K/9 is just 7.3 and his CSW% is just 25.9 percent. Philadelphia is 11-7 behind him however and he has significantly better numbers in his home starts. Gibson turned in two of his best starts of the season just before the break, spanning 13 innings with one run and just six hits allowed in his lasts two starts. Five of his last seven starts have been quality starts and he will face a Cubs lineup sporting just a .564 team OPS in the past two weeks. Chicago is 5-11 in July and 15-28 since June 1 and the Cubs have failed to top three runs scored in 10 of the past 11 games. For the season Philadelphia has slightly stronger batting and scoring rates vs. left-handers and Justin Steele has been an unreliable option on the mound for the Cubs. Steele has allowed 37 walks this season for a 4.0 BB/9 and he has been fortunate with a rather low home run rate, allowing just five in 17 starts. Steele has pitched well at Wrigley Field, but he has a 5.86 ERA on the road this season and Chicago is only 6-11 in his starts including losing four of his last five road starts. Philadelphia owns a 2.38 bullpen ERA in the past 10 games and the 49-43 Phillies are 28-14 since June 1 as this is a better team than the current placement in the standings, catching a reasonable price at home to start the second half Friday night.
