#977 Detroit Tigers (Flaherty) -105 over Milwaukee Brewers (Priester) 6:40 PM CT
Quinn Priester pitched well in his debut for the Brewers last Thursday, even in a tough venue in Colorado. He did allow six hits in five innings despite allowing only one run and while Priester was a 1st round draft pick in 2019, nothing in his MLB resume in over 100 innings suggests he will be a quality fill-in starter for the depleted Milwaukee rotation. Milwaukee managed to get through yesterday’s game using only two pitchers to offer a reprieve to the strained bullpen even in a blowout loss. The Brewers have received one six-inning start in the past 10 games however and a bullpen that has been a strong suit for the franchise in recent years has some of the worst numbers in baseball with a 5.94 bullpen ERA and a 1.46 bullpen WHIP this season. While the Brewers won’t have to face 2024 AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal again tonight, Jack Flaherty has delivered a great start to 2025, coming off a career year in 2024 that resulted in being a key part of a World Series championship rotation. Flaherty has an 11.3 K/9 this season and he has plenty of experience pitching in this ballpark. With a 10-6 record, Detroit pitching has allowed almost two fewer runs per game than the Brewers so far this season and since a tough opening series with the Dodgers, the Tigers have allowed four or fewer runs in 10 of the past 13 games. Milwaukee has lost four of the past five games with a combined total of 26 runs allowed. The Brewers are 5-3 at home this season but in the past five games Milwaukee is batting .167 with 3.0 runs per nine vs. right-handers. Detroit’s lineup has suffered a few early season injuries, but Tuesday’s game should be a mismatch on the mound in favor of the visiting Tigers.
