#631 Georgia Tech +9 over Pittsburgh 6:00 PM CT
Georgia Tech has faced the #1 strength of schedule in the ACC and has reached 7-9 in ACC play with the Yellow Jackets looking to close the regular season above .500 with four games remaining. Georgia Tech is 5-3 in the past eight games including upset wins over both Louisville and Clemson as this is a team that has made progress as the season has gone on in the second season under Damon Stoudamire. Georgia Tech has already matched last season’s ACC win count, and the defense has improved dramatically this season, ranking 7th in the ACC even through the toughest conference schedule. Pittsburgh had a strong non-conference season, but the Panthers have slid onto the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament bubble going only 7-9 in ACC play. Pittsburgh finished 12-8 in ACC play last season and couldn’t get a tournament invite and the team has gone just 2-5 since beating North Carolina at home in late January. Pittsburgh has three home losses in ACC play and the only wins in February have come against teams at the bottom of the ACC standings. Pittsburgh is a capable offensive team with good shooting numbers, but Georgia Tech is a top five 2-point defense in the ACC and a strong team at creating turnovers. The Georgia Tech offense has struggled but Pittsburgh is the third worst effective field goal defense in the conference. Pittsburgh is 4-0 S/U in the past four meetings in this series and with Georgia Tech holding only one road win this season the Panthers are a hefty favorite Tuesday. Pittsburgh is 1-7-1 ATS in the past nine games as an ACC favorite however with five S/U losses in those games. Georgia Tech had a tough offensive result with just 54 points on Saturday, but this team has scored 89 and 90 in two of the past five games and is 4-1 ATS in the past five games as an underdog. These teams have faced very different paths to reach matching records in ACC play and Georgia Tech’s trajectory late in the season has been much stronger as Pittsburgh is still getting credit for quality wins that happened in November.
