#684 Massachusetts -1 over George Washington 6:00 PM CT
Frank Martin’s third season at UMass has been step backwards so far with the Minutemen 8-11 after winning 20 games last season. Last year’s team started just 3-4 in A-10 play however as this year’s team at 3-3 has a chance to beat that start with a win tonight at home. Most non-conference losses were reasonable results, and UMass already has a win over Dayton at home this season in conference play as there is potential for this team. So far, the 3-point shooting has been awful, but the numbers have gone up in recent games and this isn’t a high volume shooting team beyond the arc. The up-tempo pace can also give several opponents problems. UMass has some of the better defensive shooting numbers in the A-10 and takes much better care of the ball than George Washington. George Washington won only four conference games last season, and the Revolutionaries enter this game off a tough double-overtime loss on Saturday, now facing a second straight road game. The Minutemen have won three of the past four in this series and were a healthy favorite at home last season in an 81-67 win almost exactly a year ago.
