#612 Western Michigan -4 over Bowling Green 6:00 PM CT
Bowling Green lost its MAC opener Friday hosting Akron, unable to hold a 17-4 early lead while falling apart in the final minutes against one of the top MAC contenders. Bowling Green had a big free throw edge and held Akron to marginal 3-point shooting, but it wasn’t enough. The Falcons are 0-4 S/U in road games this season including two losses outside the nation’s top 275 while on the season Bowling Green has just one top 300 win despite a 5-7 record. The Falcons play fast for Todd Simon, who surprisingly won 20 games in his first season with the program, but this year’s team has taken a major step backward defensively in the early numbers. Western Michigan has lost six games in a row and is just 3-10 on the season but the Broncos have only played two games all season vs. teams that rank below Bowling Green, and they are 2-0 in those games with blowout wins. The losing streak has included road losses to Dayton and Michigan State with five of six games against top 200 teams. The MAC opener Saturday came vs. Toledo in a competitive game, and this should be a more favorable opportunity. Western Michigan takes good care of the ball and has excellent rebounding numbers, and the Broncos will look to avenge losing both games in this series last season.
