#969 Toronto Blue Jays (Bassitt) +115 over Texas Rangers (Eovaldi) 7:05 PM CT

The Blue Jays and Rangers have similar disappointing records this season as neither will be back in the playoffs. Toronto is two games above .500 while +34 in scoring since August 1 however as the Blue Jays have been competitive down the stretch. Toronto had Monday off while winning four of the past five games and the pitching staff has allowed four or fewer runs in 18 of the past 22 games. Chris Bassitt has done his part with a 3.72 ERA in his last five starts including pitching well against several playoff contenders. Bassitt has a 10.9 K/9 in that span and for the season his road splits are much stronger with a 3.65 ERA in nearly 67 innings. Nathan Eovaldi’s numbers aren’t that different from last season overall, but his home run rate has gone up significantly. Eovaldi has allowed at least three runs in six of his last eight starts and he has a 4.81 ERA since the All-Star Break, allowing 12 home runs. Toronto won all three meetings in this series in July and Texas enters this series back home after a 1-5 road trip on the west coast in which the Rangers were outscored 31-17. Texas pitching has allowed at least four runs in nine consecutive games and the bullpen has a 5.58 ERA in the past 10 games with a 1.44 WHIP.
