#930 San Francisco Giants (Howard) – over Los Angeles Angels (Anderson) 9:15 PM CT

Tyler Anderson has a 2.63 ERA this season, on pace to match his excellent 2022 season with the Dodgers. In 2022 his FIP was 3.31 and this season it is 4.72 however Anderson has been one of the MLB’s most fortunate pitchers so far in 2024. Anderson has a career low 5.8 K/9 and has a worse than average 3.6 BB/9. His BABIP is just .218 and he has stranded nearly 87 percent of his baserunners. Anderson’s June splits are so far worse than his April or May splits as the reality check may continue to come for the 34-year-old left-hander that has been a league-average pitcher at best for his career, with a 55-55 record in decisions and a 4.21 ERA. The 26-42 Angels have one of the worst bullpens in baseball with a 5.17 season ERA and over the past 10 games relievers for Los Angeles have a 7.33 ERA with a 1.93 WHIP, as opponents are batting .305. Los Angeles has been held to three or fewer runs in six of the past 10 games and the Angels used four pitchers yesterday while the Giants had an off day. San Francisco sits a game shy of .500 after getting back-to-back series wins against AL West powers and the Giants are 15-10 in the past 25 games with three of those losses walk-off one-run results. San Francisco pitching enters this series having allowed three or fewer runs in six of the past seven games with strong recent bullpen results. In the past 10 games the Giants are also averaging 7.2 runs per nine vs. left-handers and Anderson has a career 4.58 ERA in 12 appearances at Oracle Park. Spencer Howard is expected to start for the Giants tonight and while his MLB track record is limited, he has pitched well in three appearances for the Giants, allowing just three runs in over 13 innings of work. Howard was a 2nd round pick back in 2017 as he still has some potential at age 27 and he had strong strikeout numbers in AAA Sacramento this spring, finally healthy after trying to pitch through injuries last season in the Texas and New York organizations. The excellent San Francisco bullpen is rested and in great recent form if Howard falters and Los Angeles pitching has allowed at least six runs in five of the past six games as the Giants should have opportunities to strike first.
