#926 Miami Marlins (Alcantara) +120 over Toronto Blue Jays (Gausman) 11:10 AM CT
Toronto used five pitchers in yesterday’s shutout win as Miami was unable to make use of a six-inning scoreless start from Eury Perez. The Blue Jays turned a pair of double plays to thwart Miami opportunities and managed to string together hits in the eighth inning to break the scoreless tie. Miami’s scoring differential can be questioned but the Marlins remain 10 games over .500 and Sandy Alcantara’s home numbers deserve respect with a 2.98 ERA this season and foes batting just .215 against him. Last season he had a 1.64 ERA at home in his Cy Young season and while he hasn’t been quite as sharp this season, he has a better team around him this season and is catching a favorable price relative to many of his home starts last season. Kevin Gausman has All-Star caliber numbers this season for Toronto, but his numbers are not as strong on the road and he has been able to pitch five of his last seven starts at home to contribute to his recent run of success. Gausman has allowed three or more runs six different times this season as he has been an inconsistent performer overall. Toronto has received just one start longer than four innings in the past four days as the bullpen has been pinched and that unit owns a 6.41 ERA in the past 10 games. Against right-handed pitching Miami has scored 5.0 runs per nine in that span compared to 3.1 runs per nine for the Blue Jays despite the bigger names in the lineup for the Blue Jays.
