Nelly’s went 3-0 on Friday – we have a 7* top play Saturday!
#902 Washington Nationals (Irvin) +135 over Miami Marlins (Garrett) 3:05 PM CT
Washington has been extremely effective against left-handers this season, batting .282 and scoring an average of 4.7 runs per nine. The Nationals are 14 games below .500 this season with a 3-9 start to June but Washington has near-even scoring results in the past seven games and took another tough one-run loss last night. Washington had 12 hits last night but went just 2-9 with runners in scoring position to drop the first game in this series against Miami. Lefty Braxton Garrett has good strikeout numbers this season but has only two wins in 12 starts. This is the third city on a long road trip for Miami and the Marlins have a 5.40 bullpen ERA in the past five games compared to a 3.06 ERA for Washington relievers in that span. Miami is batting just .211 in that span and rookie Jake Irvin has much more potential than his current MLB numbers suggest. Irvin has a 5.81 ERA in 31 innings with some command issues, but he has allowed four or fewer earned runs in six of his seven starts for mostly competitive outings. With last season’s NL Cy Young winner on the mound Miami was only -140 yesterday as this price has swung too far in a division rivalry game following a toss-up contest on Friday as Washington should be a threat on Saturday.
