FREE PICK TUESDAY: #650 OAKLAND +10 over MICHIGAN STATE 6:30 PM CT

Michigan State was not very good last season finishing 15-13 after a play-in loss in the NCAA Tournament after a fairly questionable inclusion into the field. This year’s team has much better numbers defensively but the offense has struggled to score inside and has dreadful turnover numbers. The only two losses have come against Kansas and Baylor, certainly forgivable results, but this is not a team that one should trust laying a lot of points, particularly after a 10-day break following a 2-0 start in Big Ten play with two of the more favorable draws to start the league season. This is always a huge game for Oakland and Greg Kampe’s Grizzlies and this year’s team looks formidable. Oakland is 7-2 with five top 150 caliber wins including a win at Oklahoma State. Oakland enters this game off a loss in a game where the shots just didn’t fall hitting 28 percent on 32 3-point attempts. High volume outside shooting is appealing for a heavy underdog in an up-tempo game and while Oakland has shot very poorly from long range this season, the track record of several players on the roster suggests improvement is ahead. Oakland is also an elite free throw shooting team and a team that is scoring at a very successful rate inside while the defensive numbers are dramatically improved compared to last season despite a very difficult early season schedule with a top 15 non-conference path. This is a neutral site game at Little Caesars and a stage that should bring out the best from an underdog that has already held its own against West Virginia, Oklahoma State, and Alabama this season.
