FREE PICK SATURDAY #178 Louisiana Tech -7 over Charlotte 2:30 PM CT

Louisiana Tech has lost five straight games in a stunning fall to 2-7 in a season that started with some promise. The Bulldogs have only played three FBS home games this season and the losses came to UTSA and SMU, teams that were among the last undefeated teams in the nation with UTSA still sitting at 9-0. That was a misleading loss at Louisiana Tech was outgained just 406-401. Four of the past five games have been road games and last week the Bulldogs had another misleading loss, falling by 14 at UAB despite leading early in that game. This squad has narrow losses to Mississippi State and NC State on the road and can easily make a case for being a much stronger team than the record shows. Don’t expect Skip Holtz and his team to mail in the rest of the season even with all postseason goals lost and this should be by far the most favorable home game of the season. Charlotte is 5-4 but the four FBS wins have come against teams that are a combined 11-25. Last week’s win over Rice was an epic comeback result as the 49ers trailed 24-14 with five minutes to go but wound up with a win in overtime, while being outgained by more than 100 yards. Charlotte has been outgained by at least 100 yards in four of the past five games with the only exception the narrow win over Florida International, a 1-8 team at the bottom of Conference USA. That is the only road win of the season for Charlotte who has scored 9, 14, and 13 points in the three other road games. Charlotte has a capable veteran quarterback in Chris Reynolds but the 49ers are 115th nationally in total defense allowing 115 yards per game despite a very soft schedule and this should be a great opportunity for Louisiana Tech, a team that will finish with a much higher rating than the current 2-7 record suggests as arguably the three most favorable games of the season are the next three.
