FREE PICK SATURDAY #139 RUTGERS -1.5 over ILLINOIS 11 AM CT

These teams have rather similar run defense numbers in what will be a critical factor in this contest but Rutgers has faced Michigan State, Ohio State, and Michigan in its 0-4 Big Ten start. The loss to Northwestern two weeks ago was a disappointing result but Rutgers is getting adequate quarterback play from Noah Vedral while the situation under center for Illinois has been a great challenge. Arthur Sitkowksi has been the worst rating QB in the Big Ten for Illinois but he was injured last week and Brandon Peters, who lost his job to Sitkowski, is back leading the offense this week. While Rutgers is winless in the Big Ten, Illinois has two notable wins under Bret Bielema but coming off last week’s epic overtime result will be a challenge now facing a rested Knights squad. This was a rather even game statistically last season as Illinois won narrowly at Rutgers and the road team has won four of five in this series as Big Ten foes. Rutgers won at Syracuse earlier this season and has allowed just 16 points per game in three road games this season through a formidable path. With a bye week off a season-worst performance, Rutgers should play well this week while catching Illinois off the program’s biggest win of the season.
