FREE PICK #915/916 OVER 7.5 Tampa Bay Rays (Hill) at Kansas City Royals (Keller) 7:10 PM CT
There is a bit of an overreaction to the cold weather and snow that fell in the Kansas City area. It will still be in the 40s for this game but the win will be blowing out to right field and any potential field conditions should be resolved by game time. The 9-8 Rays have scored 4.2 runs per game but are actually -10 in scoring this season as the squad that dominated on the mound last season hasn’t been getting the job done in 2021. Kansas City is also a 9-win team on top of the AL Central, posting 4.2 runs per game and allowing the same. Even with Monday’s loss to start this series the Royals are on a 5-2 run after going hitless with runners in scoring position last night. The Rays went just 2-9 to settle for four runs and both teams needed to use key relievers last night. 41-year-old Rich Hill has been consistent this season, allowing four runs in every start. He has faced three struggling offenses this season and has still posted a 7.53 ERA and Kansas City has plenty of recent experience against him, while also posting better numbers vs. left-handers so far this season. Brad Keller hasn’t recaptured his 2018 success with shaky results since 2019. He has one of the lowest strikeout rates of any regular MLB starter and so far his ERA is 9.58 in three starts this season as he may not be a regular MLB starter for long. His .436 BABIP will go down but more alarming his six walks allowed in just 10 innings this season for a pitcher that needs to lead with his command. Tampa Bay has a 5.02 bullpen ERA this season for a surprising development and this looks like an attainable figure in tonight’s AL clash even if the conditions are less than ideal for offense.
