FREE PICK #544 Toronto Raptors -2 over Orlando Magic 6:40 PM CT

Toronto had a brutal month of March and at 22-34 the Raptors have been a huge disappointment this season. There has been a bit of recent life for the team in what has been a challenging season in its adopted home in Florida. Toronto has won four of the past eight games including a nice win on Wednesday and the schedule does present some favorable opportunities the next two weeks ahead of a difficult path in early May. Making a climb to the playoffs is unlikely but this is not a team likely to completely mail it in the rest of the way either. Toronto still has a positive scoring differential despite the poor record and that average is more than eight points per game stronger than Orlando’s differential. The Magic are just 8-18 S/U on the road this season but they enter this game off a surprising win in Chicago on Wednesday. The roster was torn down at the trade deadline and the team gave a short-term surge but now has lost six of the past seven. The defensive numbers are among the worst in the league and Orlando had allowed 111 or more points in six straight games before the upset win on Wednesday. Toronto is 2-0 in this series this season with a pair of double-digit wins and while Kyle Lowry remains out there is a good chance the Raptors will have Gary Trent of DeAndre’ Bembry back today. The Raptors were just a 1.5-point favorite against Atlanta a few days ago as this is a very low number against one of the league’s worst teams. Toronto has a poor spread record this season against marginal competition but keep in mind many of those results came early in the season when the Raptors were expected to be one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. Toronto was a 6.5-point favorite in February in Orlando to show what a massive adjustment has taken place and while the roster will not be close to 100 percent today, the Magic roster is still the lesser grouping.
