FREE PICK SATURDAY #211 Minnesota +12.5 over Wisconsin 3:00 PM CT

Minnesota won the Axe in the last trip to Madison with an upset in 2018 against a dysfunctional Badgers team that faded late in the year, featuring some similarities to this year’s disappointing Wisconsin team. Last year Wisconsin spoiled Minnesota’s bid for an outright Big Ten West title with a convincing win in Minneapolis. The final score in last year’s game was a bit misleading as the yardage was relatively close and P.J. Fleck has played well vs. the Badgers and Paul Chryst going back to a strong Cotton Bowl effort while with Western Michigan. Wisconsin is challenging to support in its current form riding three straight losses with a depleted offensive attack, last week playing without the top two WRs and their starting RB. Wisconsin has also have faced three of the best Big Ten defenses in those games, while Minnesota is at the other end of the spectrum. The 28-7 loss for Wisconsin last week was one of the worst of the Paul Chryst era though the defense did its part and it was a 7-point game late in the third quarter. Statistically there is an easy case for the Badgers particularly considering 4.5 yards per play allowed compared to 7.0 allowed by these defenses respectively. Add that Wisconsin was just a bigger home favorite vs. Indiana two weeks ago and this line doesn’t make a great deal of sense. That is the worry however as this is a shorthanded Wisconsin team that has seen its season goals dissolve with three straight ugly defeats and now is a team laying double-digits despite scoring a combined total of 20 points the past three games. Minnesota is riding back-to-back wins to trend upward and may warrant this type of a pricing adjustment in this rivalry game.
