Free Pick Sunday: #726 Toronto Raptors – over Memphis Grizzlies 1:00 PM ET

Toronto’s perfect start in the restart came to a halt on Friday as in a big Eastern Conference game with Boston the Raptors lost for the third time this season to the Celtics. Those teams have a good shot to face off in the Eastern Conference semifinals but the first order of business for the Raptors is to lock up the #2 seed in the East, which they can do with one more win. Two of three wins for Toronto in Orlando have come by double-digits in what has been a difficult path through four games. Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Denver close out the regular season as the Raptors would be well served to seal the #2 spot Sunday to be able to use next week to rest some key players. The format of the restart put in place by the NBA seems in some ways like it was designed to bump Memphis out of the playoffs. The Grizzlies did their part by losing the first four games in Orlando while also losing Jaren Jackson to injury. Friday night Memphis played terrific and beat Oklahoma City in a huge result that greatly reduces the risk that Memphis will be left out of the playoffs, or at least the play-in 8/9 series. Things broke right for Memphis last night as well as the Clippers were able to steal a win against Portland, now leaving Memphis 1.5 games up on the Blazers and 2.0 games up on the Sun and Spurs. San Antonio and New Orleans face off today in what will effectively be an elimination game while The Blazers have a difficult turnaround facing Philadelphia after last night’s tough result. Memphis can breathe a bit easier but it could mean a difficult task on Sunday. Facing Boston and Milwaukee in the final two games sounds daunting but it is likely that both of those East contenders will be locked into their positions and actually could provide Memphis with a favorable draw if they need to win to lock up the #8 spot. Memphis outshot Oklahoma City by more than 20 percent in Friday’s win in what feels like a fluky result. Memphis led the rebounding but still had 20 turnovers and a big edge at the line. Toronto will be the best team Memphis has faced so far in the bubble and this spread is actually lower than the favorite spread Toronto faced vs. Orlando last week, a team that has been much more impressive than the Grizzlies in the restart.
